Ayurveda Remedy and Wellness

Herbs

Ayurveda is the Ancient Indian Medical System. It has been practiced in India since centuries. There are many treatises written by Sage Charak, Sage Sushrut and Sage Vaga Bhatt- some prominent names besides many others. The treatise were written by observing life functions closely. Ayurveda remedy and wellness is therefore proven and embedded into Indian Living Habits. Lately, many of them have been revised and has found renewed interest as alternative medications.

Ayurveda systematically categorized the body illness originating from three sources – Vata, Pitta or Kafa. Vata is the air in our body, Pitta being the gastric juices and Kafa is the phlegm. Over 174 illnesses are categorized to be arising out of imbalance of these three. The illness ranging from mild headache to acute lifestyle illness.

The main idea in Ayurveda is to maintain balance between these three elements in our body. Maintaining a balance ensures that you don’t suffer from any illness and lead a life of wellness. In order to maintain this balance, there are four things to take care of which we discuss in this article.

Method to Drink WaterSipping Water

Drinking water should always be taken sip-by-sip. One should ensure that saliva must reach our guts along with water. This is necessary for good digestion. Drinking water in the right way connects Ayurveda remedy and wellness.

Our gut is filled with gastric juices which is acidic in nature. While saliva is alkaline and one of the best alkaline drinks available naturally. The affect of saliva is to balance the Ph and prevent any acidic flow into our blood. Any acidic flow through blood causes numerous lifestyle diseases.

Hence, drinking water sip by sip is one the most effective natural method to maintain balance between Vata, Pitta and Kafa. This enhances the immunity and reduces the chances of illness. Always drink water by sipping it and never just pouring water into your mouth. The ill affects of not drinking water right way can be easily observed in people with increased waist-line, low energy and suffering with various other lifestyle diseases.

Time to Drink WaterMorning Hours

Drinking three glasses of water first thing in the morning is the best time to drink water. This should be taken the right way, i.e. by sipping it ensuring that the saliva is transferred to our guts. This is the only time when one should drink water without feeling thirsty.

A night’s sleep leaves the stomach full of acidic gastric juice which can have an ill-affect if transferred to our blood. At the same time, there is large amount of saliva produced during our sleep. Nature has provided solutions to all our body problems. If this saliva is transferred to our guts, it will help in maintaining our PH balance. Hence, drinking water first thing in the morning works wonders in maintaining a balance between Vata, Pitta and Kafa. Here balancing the three elements of body constituent is the basis of Ayurveda remedy and wellness.

Drinking three glasses of water in the morning hours creates pressure to remove bowel completely. All the toxins are thereby removed from the body if this method of drinking water is practiced. Bowel movement is easiest at the juncture of night and day, i.e. the hour just before sunrise. The gases in our stomach is at the maximum during this hour and exerts a natural pressure to excrete bowel. Thereby, the guts gets cleared and digestion gets better.

This methodology of drinking water is a must follow if you want to follow a life full of wellness.

Temperature of Drinking WaterThermometer

Humans are warm-blooded and our body temperature is maintained normally higher than the ambient temperature at all times. Drinking water that disturbs the body temperature cools it down. That affects the normal functioning of body parts.

Drinking water must always be either at ambient temperature or warm water is still better. Imagine what could drinking cold water do in our stomach. It will naturally affect the working temperature of gastric acids and impact its effectiveness in digesting food. Hence, food will remain undigested and will leave us with lesser energy than intended. This will make us look dull all day.

Besides, drinking cold water will cool the blood running in the veins. This will lead to lesser absorption of oxygen and impact the feeding to the organs. This might reflect in the long run as lifestyle diseases.

Hence, drink water kept only at optimum temperature. This will have a positive effect your wellness.

No Water after FoodMeal

It is extremely important to not drinking water just before, during or immediately after a meal. Our guts require gastric juices to work at its best to digest food effectively. If it is diluted by water at this critical junction, it will either not digest the food or only partially digest it. Hence, it is extremely important to avoid drinking water about 45 minutes before having your meal and up to 45 minutes after it. People not following this methodology suffer from common ailments like indigestion, bloating stomach, acidity etc.

The question coming in here is – I am used to drinking water after meal? So how do I wash down food?

Here, instead of drinking water to wash down food, the easiest alternative is any drink made of yogurt. Sparkling water is another great alternative. Fruit juice or even lemonade is great post-meal. All these drinks are acidic in nature and enhance the acidity of the gastric juices. Therefore, the function of gastric juices is not affected like it would have been in case of water.

There are methods like the japanese water therapy which I have been practicing as well but after reading your article Ii now appreciate that there is a way of actually ingesting water that’s correct. Due to wanting to reach my daily target I find that often end up chugging which I now know is bad for my health. I will carry out the steps you have outlined in describing Ayurveda for better and improved health.
